Case No. 4) Conrad Johnson Premier 8A Monoblock Amplifier This customer was trying to replace the output tubes for his Conrad Johnson Premier 8A, not knowing one of the tubes was dead on arrival and had an internal short. The amplifier's B+ fuse was tripped immediately upon turn on. The shorted tube also blew the cathode voltage biasing resistor which required replacement. After the rather easy "on spot" repair, we re-measured and adjusted the bias for all the output tubes. Measuring the tubes actually took much longer than the repair. The unit was bench tested to meet factory specification. Total Cost of Repair: $ 100 dollars including $ 10 in parts & 1 tube. Turnaround Time: 30 mins, repaired on spot. |
