Case No. 1) Dared MP 2A3C - Basic Upgrade Click to enlarge This customer was generally satisfied with the price and performance of this amplifier, but was seeking ways to eliminate two major nuisances: Loud "pops" during power on, and premature clipping during operation. To solve the problem, we performed a "Basic Upgrade" to the circuitry: Modified the circuit and changed the input tubes from two 6N3, to a 12AX7 and a 6DJ8. The 6N3s were inadequate for this particular operation and was the cause of the premature clipping. The switch to 12AX7 and 6DJ8 solved the problem. Added Soft Start to the circuitry Changed input sensitivity, and adjusted circuit to allow for an increase in power band / frequency response Reinstalled 8 tube socket clips (which were originally missing out of factory) to ensure safe operation Replaced substandard capacitors with proper audio grade capacitors. Use of Cryo-clear Teflon coated Silver cables for internal wiring.
This BASIC UPGRADE tackled every single area in the circuitry which were limiting the performance of the amplifier. The upgrade permits the amplifier to reach performance levels previously unattainable with the stock design. It can now compete with some of the best 2A3 amplifiers on the market.
