Furutech introduces the DeStat - Promised to remove dust and static for ultimately refined sound. The handheld DeStat is incredibly easy to use as it removes dust and static charge from audio/ video media in just one 10 second treatment. High performance enthusiasts know that static charges on analog and optical media -- LPs, CDs and DVDs – can lead to distracting noise and compromised sound. Simply hold the Destat over your media of choice and press one button.

The powerful fan removes dust while the Destat’s Balanced Ion Flow Generator – releasing just the right balance of positive and negative ions – eliminates static. Almost every system component benefits from eliminating its static charge. Use the Destat to remove static from the audio/video equipment itself – best to turn them off during treatment – plus power cords, line-level interconnects, speaker cables, and metal record clamps.

The Furutech deMag completely demagnetizes LPs and optical disc media such as CD, CD-R, DVD, MD, Game CD, Photo CD, SACD, and DVD Audio. Plus it’s an indispensable accessory for keeping interconnect cables, connectors and power cords demagnetized to prevent magnetic signal distortion.

Disc Magnetization Is No Mystery

The silk-screened label on an optical disc contains chemical compounds such as iron, nickel, and cobalt. These materials are all strongly magnetic and easily remagnetized. The reflective information-bearing surface of optical media contains 99% aluminum, but 1% of these same highly magnetic materials! Even aluminum is considered a weak magnetic conductor.

Amazingly, optical discs actually magnetize as they play! A magnetic field is actually induced as they spin. This same elemental process takes place with CD, CD-R, DVD, and MD. Particular attention is due MD as it’s the most prone to magnetization effects such as problems reading discs.

Other so-called demagnetizers on the market including specialist products, head erasers, bulk erasers, etc. don’t even completely demagnetize your discs. Rather, some of them actually induce magnetism! Take spinning demagnetizers, for example. After the disc stops, a section of the CD is left exposed to the fixed magnet below. Because Furutech’s deMag Ring Magnet Technology ramps the power up then down again, all residual magnetism is completely removed.

Tweaks - Furutech DF-2

Furutech's new DF-2 flattens warped LPs, including no-bead 180gm vinyl. Every vinyl enthusiast has records in their collection or has come across LPs they’d love to own, but were just too warped for any cartridge/arm to track. The DF-2 can be the one-stop, one-button solution to your problems. The DF-2 provides controlled-heat perfect flattening for all your warped records, even those with only slight irregularities just enough to unsettle your cartridge and cause mistracking.

Warps are bad news no matter how you look at them. If the arm/cartridge remains parallel to the LP’s surface as with a flat record, VTA (Vertical Tracking Angle) remains unchanged throughout every rotation. Additionally, as the arm/cartridge tracks a warp on its upside, it places greater pressure on the stylus which changes VTF (Vertical Tracking Force) until the peak of the warp, whereupon the cartridge becomes “unloaded” with too little VTF on the way down.

Of course, all this muddles the sound, changing the tonal quality, imaging and soundstage characteristics of the cartridge. A flat record also tracks better with less distortion. The DF-2 doesn’t take up much room with its space-saving, vertical design. Improved film heating technology optimizes the entire heating and cooling cycle for a perfectly flat LP that your cartridge.

The DF-2 is more versatile than ever: It stores vertically, operates horizontally, and now flattens 180gm beadless LPs. As the DFV-1, it’s a model of simplicity to use. Place on a level, stable surface, power it, and then unlock both transport latches. Opening the top of the clamshell heating plates, simply place the LP on the center spindle. Close gently, power up the unit, and tap a single button! An LCD display keeps you informed of progress, taking between 1.5 and 2.5 hours total, a tone signaling when done.
